Chandrababu trying to merge Telangana with AP: Harish Rao

Article
Taking potshots at TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, TRS Leader and caretaker Irrigation Minister Harish Rao said that the AP Chief Minister is hatching a ploy with the Congress to merge Telangana back into Andhra Pradesh. "Chandrababu wants to control the Telangana government from Andhra Pradesh. He is trying to make our state a puppet in his hands by joining with the Congress," said Harish Rao, addressing people at Siddipet.

Adding fuel to fire, Harish Rao said the TDP Chief had attempted to stop the creation of Telangana in 1998 along with Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. "Chandrababu obstructed the proposal to create a separate Telangana state when the BJP leadership was exploring proposals for carving out three other states," he said.

Asking people to remember the sacrifices of several students and people during the Telangana movement, he said that people of Telangana need to draw their inspiration from Sakalajanula Samme which was the foundation for the creation of Telangana.

However, Harish Rao's claims of Naidu trying to stall formation of Telangana seem to fall flat because TRS itself was formed in 2001 and in 2009, it forged an alliance with the TDP and Left in the state. It looks like the TRS is trying its best to malign Chandrababu Naidu and show him in bad light.

Going by Harish Rao's comments that TDP Chief is planning to merge Telangana with AP, if one analyses the manner in which bifurcation had happened, it is not possible. Because people of both the Telugu states will not agree and Chandrababu knows it well. Also, it does not bode well for TRS because by making such baseless claims of merger, Harish Rao is undermining the people's struggle for the creation of Telangana.
