Income Tax officials Thursday morning conducted searches at properties belonging to Telangana Congress working president A Revanth Reddy, who had planned to launch his poll campaign Thursday, in a case dating back to May 2015. Reddy, a former MLA of the TDP from Kodangal, joined the Congress in October last year and was recently made the party’s Telangana working president.
Reddy, a staunch critic of Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao, has postponed his poll campaign.
In May 2015, Reddy was caught with Rs 50 lakh cash by Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau while trying to bribe a nominated MLA to vote in favour of the TDP candidate in the Legislative Council elections. Officials said that Thursday’s raids were to find out the source of the amount recovered from Reddy in 2015.
State Congress termed the raids as political vendetta by the CM in connivance with the BJP at the Centre. TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the raids come three years after the case was lodged. “This is an attempt by KCR to intimidate Congress leaders ahead of the elections,” he said.
Both TRS and BJP denied the charges.
Searches were conducted at Reddy’s residences in Banjara Hills and Kodangal, besides the houses of 13 of his relatives. ens
