HYDERABAD: A woman in Hyderabad has alleged that her 16-year-old daughter was given away in marriage to a 65-year-old Oman national for five lakh rupees paid to an aunt.
In a complaint to the police, the woman has claimed that the wedding took place three months ago, and her daughter was taken to Oman without her consent. She has accused her sister-in-law and her husband of facilitating the illegal marriage.
She has given the police photographs that show the teenager in bright red wedding attire with an elderly, grey-bearded man in a jacket. In a photo apparently of a wedding ritual, the man is in white and the girl is in black. They were married in a hotel by a Qazi, the woman says.
The man allegedly returned to Muscat after the wedding and soon, sent a visa for his child bride.
The woman says her daughter cried every time she spoke to her and wanted to return to Hyderabad.
"I spoke directly with the Omani national who married my daughter. He is saying that he paid Rs. 5 lakhs to Sikander (brother-in-law) and his wife and purchased my daughter and wants that money back, then only he will send back my daughter," the woman says.
She also accused her brother-in-law of threatening her for trying to bring back her daughter.
